Gene was a lovely guy and a real countryman who sold me a gun and gave me a few lessons.
He had received a bad prognosis the last time I went for a lesson but was as brave and funny as ever, even as death approached. He watched my bad efforts and and asked when was the big driven shoot for which I was preparing.
"In two days, Gene."
"You may be wasting your time with me - there is no way to fatten the pig the day before the fair!"
A great teacher and a fine man who loved his family, his dogs and his sport.
