Kevin and Niamh,
I went into my Friday Active Age club in Ballyroan and heard the news that Evelyn had passed away. I’m deeply sorry for the loss of your Wife and Mum. There wasn’t a morning that she didn’t mention both of you. She had the most wonderful gentle voice and little lilt in her laugh. We laughed a LOT. I remember when I saw her for the first time after the lockdown was finished, I literally jumped out of the car at the shops on Marian Road, the car may have been still moving I had got that excited at seeing her, and asked her to come back to the club. She came back. Loved it then had a fall and broke bones in her wrist or hand. So she still came and sat with her hand splinted up. I brought her coffee but she never wanted a biscuit. We used to laugh about how Friday calories don’t count and about my kid’s shenanigans. She would come in every Friday and give me a hug or squeeze my hand and thank me for getting out of the car that day. I loved to see her coming. Friday week ago, I noticed her chair was empty. I thought she was away because she had talked about going on holidays. This past Friday, I found out she had passed away. The tears didn’t stop until after 1am. I will miss my Friday hug and squeeze. I will miss her laughter. I will miss her presence in her chair in the back row. I will miss her gentle voice. I will miss her, very much.
