My sincere condolences to Helena, Ella, Kathy and Eoin on the passing of a wonderful husband, dad, granddad and friend to all those who crossed his path. I was privileged to work closely with Fergus during my time in the National Drugs Strategy Team. I saw at first hand his straight talking, single mindedness, determination and unwavering commitment to influence and change policies, hearts and minds in order to better the lives and life chances of those affected by drug misuse, especially young people. He truly was one of a kind! Rest in peace Fergus.

R I P Fergus you where one of the best

Fergus is a massive loss. He was never far away when we in Streetline needed support for a young person. May he rest in peace and condolences to his family, his friends, his community and all the individuals whom he journeyed with for part of their lives. He will live in all our memories.

Helena, so sad to read of Fergus' death. My sincere sympathy to you and family. i have great memories of his role in Summerhill when I worked in Dublin Corporation in the early years of his career. I hope we can meet Helena when, (YES WHEN) the situation changes. Take care, keep safe and well.

As a young reporter in the 1980s I came across my first activist in Fergus . His drive , passion and integrity showed me that one person who could make a difference in small and big ways . Thank you for caring about the city and its citizens . And to Fergus' family , thank you for sharing your dad with all of us .

He was a remarkable man, his compassion and optimism shone in what at times must have been very difficult and dark situations. His dedication and commitment to the North Inner City community was truly inspirational...making a real difference to the lives of those he touched, especially the young people he mentored and supported. You will be sadly missed Fergus, but never forgotten.

As a student many years ago in UCC, the place to go on placement was with Fergus in Dublin on what was then known as the'Dream Team'
A few years later I moved to Dublin and could see what this really meant.
His passion committment , energy and skill had an impact on everyone who met him as well as his sense of fun.

Listening to a eulogy to Fergus McCabe on radio on Friday, little did I know we were related. My mother Mary McCabe (Phibsborough) would have been a cousin to his father. I thought the line ended as both my uncles Joey and Christopher never married.
What a wonderful man, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. May he Rest In Peace and sympathies to all the family.

If we have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants. For me, Fergus is one of these giants who has supported unheard voices to be heard and led the way for so many allowing us to reach higher and be more than we thought we could be. A champion of many, deserving of so much thanks and respect. A huge thank you to Helena and all your family for allowing others to have so much of his time and energy over the decades. May he rest in peace and may you all find comfort and hope.

I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Fergus, a gentleman in the full meaning of the word whom I admired greatly for his enthusiasm and energy as he prodded government towards a better response to problem drugtaking and its underlying causes. His passion and commitment to all those affected by drugs and poverty was abundantly clear to those, like myself ,who were privileged to work with him on the Oversight Forum on the Drugs Strategy. That passion and commitment will be missed. Personally I am the better from having known Fergus and my deepest sympathy goes to his family.
