Finola,so sorry to hear of Barry's passing, deepest condolences to all Barry's family, yourself and the children Finola,Tom and Deirdre.may he rest in peace,it's so sad that we couldn't get to the funeral.

Finola, it was with great sadness that we heard of Barry's passing. He was a lovely man to meet and have a chat with always extremely pleasant and great company. And I'm sure he maintained his dedication to the fortunes of Blackburn Rovers!! Our condolences to you and your family on your immense loss.

Barry had many attributes. He was meticulous, with great concentration. In the CAO system he was always prepared for the "Allocation " with statistical analysis that only he knew how to interpret. He always ensured that he did his utmost for the benefit of the applicants and of UL.
And when the work was done, could he party?
Above all, Barry was a gentleman in every sense.

Sincere condolences to you Finola and the Sharkey family on the sad passing of Barry. He was a man dedicated to his profession, infectious in his enthusiasm for the development of NIHE and later UL. He was a joy to work with and a mentor to many. We had many an enlightened conversation on the state of hurling and Cork v Tipp rivalry, in particular. We think of his great sense of humour, storytelling and the memorable golf outings. May he rest in peace.

My deepest sympathy to all of Barry's family. You won't know me but I worked with Barry at UL for about 15 years. He was in charge of admissions and each year had to estimate how many places to offer on the CAO for each course. He likened it to docking an aircraft carrier. Every year he got it right or very nearly right - and he did it all with humour, integrity and efficiency. He was a true gentleman and will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.
