My deepest condolences to the Sharkey family.
Barry had many attributes. He was meticulous, with great concentration. In the CAO system he was always prepared for the "Allocation " with statistical analysis that only he knew how to interpret. He always ensured that he did his utmost for the benefit of the applicants and of UL.
And when the work was done, could he party?
Above all, Barry was a gentleman in every sense.

To Jim and the rest of the Sharkey family and to his dear wife Finola and family sincere sympathy…..a blast from the past of a very happy memory of Barry Sharkey all the way from Ballinlough Rd. in Cork city. My great loss was that he then vanished from my circle having gone to Limerick, unfortunately never to meet again.
To Jim who was one of the ‘Sullies Quay boys’ in Cork profound and sincere sympathy.

Sincere condolences to you Finola and the Sharkey family on the sad passing of Barry. He was a man dedicated to his profession, infectious in his enthusiasm for the development of NIHE and later UL. He was a joy to work with and a mentor to many. We had many an enlightened conversation on the state of hurling and Cork v Tipp rivalry, in particular. We think of his great sense of humour, storytelling and the memorable golf outings. May he rest in peace.

My deepest sympathy to all of Barry's family. You won't know me but I worked with Barry at UL for about 15 years. He was in charge of admissions and each year had to estimate how many places to offer on the CAO for each course. He likened it to docking an aircraft carrier. Every year he got it right or very nearly right - and he did it all with humour, integrity and efficiency. He was a true gentleman and will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.
