My deepest sympathies to Patricia, Thomas, Margaret & Claire on the very sad passing of Fr. Joe.

I was deeply saddened by the news of Joe’s passing.

I was one of his Folk Group Choir members in the Cathedral many moons ago! We had such fun and such happy memories.

He was the person my parents entrusted my brother & I with for our first concert in the City Hall in Cork. It was a U2 concert we were dying to go to. He stepped up to the mark and chaperoned us. That is one fantastic memory we have. He was such fun & so kind.

I have many great memories having visited him in Sacramento and meeting him on many of his visits back from California.

He is sadly missed.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Sincere sympathy to Pat and ALL the Mc Carthy family on the unexpected death of JOE. We have stayed as life-long friends from our student days in Maynooth Seminary College since 1972. JOE had planned to visit me in London in June and we had arranged to go to KING LEAR - the play by Shakespeare. To honour JOE'S memory I went to the play with another friend.
Some quotations from the play aptly reminded me that JOE'S presence was tangible in the theatre throughout the entire performance:
'Many a true word was spoken in jest.'
'In jest there is truth.'
'Who is that can tell me who I am?'
'The weight of this sad time we must obey.
Speak what we feel, not what we ought to say.'
I am a man more sinned against than sinning.'
'We two alone will sing like birds in the cage.
When thou dost ask me blessing, I'll kneel down.
And ask for forgiveness: so we will live.
And pray, and sing,/ and tell old tales and laugh.'
'Who loses and who wins; who's in and who's out;
And take upon the mystery of things,
As if we were God's spies.....that ebb and flow by the moon.'
Remembering JOE and entrusting him to the caress and eternal embrace of God's Love.
NÍL SÉ IMITHE UAINN. TÁ SÉ IMITHE ROMHAINN.
He is not gone from us. He is gone before us.
Beannachtaí...John Cullen..... London.
