My sincere condolences on the passing of Fr Michael.He was an inspiring lecturer and those of us who had the privilege to attend his lectures were very privileged. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.

A scholar and gentleman who was a great inspiration to his former students and a man ahead of his time; he demonstrated a true understanding of and genuine belief in diversity and inclusion.

I am so very sorry to hear this news. Fr Mícheál was one of my Sociology lecturers in Maynooth in the early 90's and instilled a love for Sociology in me. He was always a very caring man, who guided us throughout college years.
May his gentle soul res tin peace.

My sincere sympathies to all who mourn for Micheál. He was my sociology lecturer in late 80’s in Maynooth. Such a man left a huge impression on me. May he rest in peace and know that he made a difference to life for so many. RIP.

My condolences to Fr. Micheál’s family, Jesuits family and his many friends everywhere.

Fr Micheál cast a big shadow: a physically strong and powerful man, matched by his personality, his intellect, his spirituality and his humanity. Sociology was his subject but social justice was his mission. He left the West at a young age to pursue his army career, then his ministry with the Jesuits and academic career in St Patrick’s Maynooth but his heart never fully crossed the Shannon. On hearing of our marriage, Fr. Micheál congratulated his colleague Thomas Kelly "On having the good sense to marry a Mayo woman".

After Thomas’ passing, within 18 months of our parents; Fr. Micheál made time in his busy schedule to say a very special ‘farewell’ Mass in our parents cottage. Joined by friends, extended family and as was always the custom in our locality, neighbours, of all faiths and none. True to form, Fr. Micheál knew most of the people present and had met the remainder before leaving. The occasion, though difficult was a wonderfully healing experience. One I cherish. Later Fr. Micheál said a private Mass for us when I moved into my Studio. A very different experience but equally memorable.

May he now Rest in Peace.

My sincere sympathy to the Mac Gréil family on the death of Fr Micheál. I have great memories of his Sociology lectures in mid 1970s. In his lectures, he shone a light on prejudice and other attitudes and taught us to ask why. A wonderful teacher and he made a difference. May he rest in peace.

Deepest sympathy to Mícheáls family,friends and the Jesuit community on his passing.Few could live so active a life.He was an active member of Aontas and served on its execative and President,He made a very positive contribution to Kildare trades council and organised very worthwhile seminars as chairman of same.As a fraternal delegate from IFUT he joined many TUI conferences and joined Co Kildare delegates at congress dinners.He spoke proudly of his army days,and as acting parish priest.Few could fit so much into one lifetime.May he Rest in Peace.

Deepest sympathy and love to the family of Fr Micheal, a wonderful Lecturer and the kindest man to me and my family when we experienced the sudden bereavement of my younger brother Kevin. Fr Micheal dropped everything and came to our aid...I will never forget his words at my brother's graveside, that he was "more alive now than ever before"... those words still bring comfort to this very day, over 30 years later. "Life is changed, not ended" - Fr Micheal is rejoicing now in heaven with loved ones and friends, his work is over and done. He touched all our lives. Thanking God for him and everything he has done on this earth. We will meet again. Aiséirí (John11:25)

Deepest sympathy to the family of Fr. Michael and to his Jesuit community. He was a proud Irishman and Mayoman. He was a man of God and a devout priest, who wanted to make our world a better place by trying to make a difference for those without a voice. He was a lifelong dedicated Pioneer and a staunch promoter of the Pioneer ideals. His funeral Mass today was a fitting farewell, and he will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him. May his precious soul rest in the peace of Christ.
