On Saturday last I visited the church at Donamon Castle aware of the fact that a great spirit was soon to depart this life. As I lit a candle there for Fr Norman, the word 'mahatma' came to my mind and has stayed with me since as I reflect on the life and times of this remarkable man.
His life has been a blessing to us all and while his loss saddens us for a while, it fills us too with faith and hope as we hear again the beautiful words he prayed in his final days on this earth :
"Father, take me home."

Very sad to hear of Norman's death. I first met him when he was cycling in a local bog. He stopped and we chatted for some time. I don't remember what we talked about but do recall an immediate liking for him. A friendship which lasted. We always had fun together, happy times and memories.
