Ár gComhbhrón le Clann Phádraigh agus a dheirfiúir Mairghréad ar bhás an Athar Pádraig! Our sympathy to Margaret & family on passing Fr Patrick. Fr Pat often recalled how he well remembered serving the wedding mass of my wife Máire's parents, William & Mollie Hennessy Fox, Ballyfeerode in 1941 Twelve years ago, while researching material for a book on Fr. Pat's old school, 'Scoil Mhuire' Glenrue NS, I spoke to Fr. Pat about his schooldays in Glenrue. I remember him telling me how he and a few more in 5th & 6th class, had to serve mass on the sad occasion of the death of a baby, who had died without being baptised. Pat said that they had a very serious conversation together on the way up to the church about whether or not the unbaptised baby's soul, would or would not be received in heaven!! Pat wondered if many of todays servers would have such philosophical conservations at that young age, on such a serious matter, on their way to serve mass? Ar Dheis Dé go bhfuil a anam dílis agus i gcomhluadar na Naomh uilig é anois!!

So sorry to hear that the final whistle had blown on Fr. Howard's life last Friday.
I extend my sincere sympathy to his sister, brother in law, nieces and extended family. I have great memories of Fr. Howard's kindness to pupils and staff of Athlacca N.S. He was always a very welcome visitor to the school. He exuded a great calmness. He did not believe in getting too excited about things. "Pace yourselves" was the advice he frequently gave us. At many school masses the G.A.A. would be invariably mentioned, in particular, who won the All Ireland in a particular year and of course the final score. It is wonderful to think that present Limerick schoolchildren know only of success in All Ireland finals. Fr. Howard what a year to go to your heavenly reward, the year Limerick won 3 in a row. You once told me that your philosophy in life was that a spoon of honey is more effective than a barrel of vinegar. You lived by that philosophy and consequently made life better for so many. Rest now in heavenly peace. Go lónraí solas na bhFlaitheas ort!
— Breda Lehane Castletroy and formerly of Athlacca NS

Sincere sympathy to Fr Paddy's sister Margaret, brother in law Jerry, his nieces Cathleen, Marian, Marguerite, Geraldine and all of the family. I succeeded Fr Paddy as parish priest of Dromin Athlacca in September 2004. For the following 12 years we enjoyed a very warm and personal friendship. Fr Paddy was always so supportive of all that I was doing in the parish. He was generous with his time and always helped out when needed. He was a wise advisor in all areas of pastoral work and in the administration of the parish. He was full of wit and humour, sometimes even about himself. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of all sports, but especially of GAA and Limerick hurling. A man with the common touch, who related so easily with people of all ages, he brought healing, comfort and consolation to his parishioners. May he now be rewarded with a seat at the eternal banquet in heaven where he will surely feel at home, with the Lord, and with all those who have gone before him. Rest in peace Fr Paddy. Thank you for your fraternal care and support. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers at this time. Fr Tony
