So sad to hear of the passing of Fr. Pat. We attended Fr. Pat’s removal and were sorry not to be able to speak to the family. My husband Paddy and Fr. Pat attended Maynooth together and were good friends and stayed in contact over the years. Fr. Pat married us on the 1st of August 1980 and stayed in my parents home. I recall with fondness playing football for the 'Sem' under Fr. Pats reigns (with the odd confrontation at army checkpoints). Throughout the years I met him on many occasions, more recently during his appointments at the mater. He always had time for a chat and had his pleasant smile. You will be a great miss. I wish to extend my sincere sympathy to the family of Fr Pat . He was a wonderful priest in our community and has left a great legacy in the refurbishment of St Mary’s Chapel and the development of the Priest’s houses , in addition to his care of the sick and those in need.
One of my recollections of Fr Pat’s empathy with his community was standing outside SuperValu on a terribly wet ,cold and windy day Daffodil Day collecting money.
May his Soul enjoy everlasting peace.
— Mary Flanagan
Our deepest condolences to the Mc Hugh Family & to the priests of the Diocese of Clogher on the passing of Fr. Pat.
As a student of St. Macartans College in the mid ‘80’s - I remember him for his love of sport & especially the GAA - he was an excellent teacher - offered young lads encouragement and was also a very committed priest.
I always enjoyed meeting him in the years after leaving St. Macartans and he would always know you & want to have the chat & bit of slagging.
A great loss to us all.
May he now R.I.P.

From seeing him be so instrumental in setting up coaching under 10s GAA with the Sean MacDiarmada club in the late ‘80s; to meeting him at games in the decades since, Fr Pat was a great GAA man. An honorary Monaghan man he always followed the fortunes of the Seans and other clubs in areas where he ministered in Monaghan. But his heart was always in Fermanagh. Two years ago in 2020 he was texting to say that he’d enjoyed watching other clubs win county titles over the years and seeing the lift it gave communities. But to see his beloved Ederney win the title in Fermanagh after 52 years was what described as “very special”. It was great that he got to witness that and terribly sad that he has passed away so young less that two years later. Sincere sympathy to the McHugh family. Fr Pat will always be remembered in Monaghan. May he rest in peace.

Our sincerest condolences to Fr Pats family, friends and fellow clergy in our diocese of Clogher on his untimely passing. Fr Pat was multi talented, forthright and a man of great vision. He was a perfectionist and thanks to him and his committee the parishioners of Muckno are blessed with the beautiful refurbishment of St Marys church. As a member of Castleblayney Cancer Society his commitment and wisdom was greatly appreciated and not forgotten. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
