Greatly saddened at the death of Fr. Paul Byrne - cara dílis againne agus ag ár gclann ar fad. B'iontach an comhluadar é agus beidh cuimhne i bhfad ar an gcomaoin a chuir sé ar imircigh bhochta Éireannacha i Sasana i rith na seachtódaí. Ba ghnaíúil, geanúil, suáilceach an sagart é agus mairfidh a chuimhne linne go bráth.

Dear Tony, David and Carmel, I was so sad to hear of the death of Fr Paul. He was such a lovely and witty man, also a wonderful Priest to all under his care. He will be sorely missed. As you know we were all family friends and I still have some wonderful memories of those days.

So incredibly sad at Paul’s passing. He was a deeply beloved friend and mentor who made the tough decisions seem easy. He was amongst the most humane, dignified, righteous, loyal, decent, honorable, witty, intellectual, Christian, compassionate, graceful, loving, caring, kindly, virtuous, ethical – and so much more – human being and leader we have ever known. We will miss him dreadfully and our almost weekly telephone conversations. His beautiful legacy will live on in the minds and hearts of everyone who knew him. Rest in peace kind and noble soul. May Jesus hold you in the palm of his hands forever.

As a teacher, friend, and yes, as Dean of studies, you still resonate in my memory, though long ago, as a person of compassion, empathy and a brilliant teacher. You stood in briefly for our Irish teacher, and in one lesson and in a mixture of Inchicorean Irish and English introduced me to a real meaning and feeling for Cathal Buí Mac Giollagunna's -" An Bonnán Buí". For this I thank you.

So sorry to hear of Fr Paul’s death. A great man. Was so happy to have him celebrate our wedding in 2012. Unfortunately won’t be able to attend today as I’m at another funeral.

So sad to hear of Fr. Paul’s passing and sincere condolences to all his family. I had the pleasure to work with him between 1966 when he was appointed Director of the Irish Information Centre, Moat Row, Birmingham until my marriage to Pat in 1968 at which he officiated.
He did tremendous work among Irish emigrants and introduced the Catholic Housing Aid Society to Birmingham a scheme where young couples were provided with a flat at a reasonable rate and encouraged to save towards a deposit on their new home and many availed of this scheme. He was kind and generous, great fun and a good friend.

I was sorry to read about the death of Fr Paul. As a new arrival in London from Ireland at the end of the '60s, I got a job in the Shelter Housing Aid Centre where he was boss. He was a warm, witty, convivial man, liked by everyone, and wonderful to work for. Condolences to his sister, brothers and extended family. May he rest in peace.
