Sincere sympathy to the Hickey family and his Augustinian confreres on the death of Fr. Raymond. In the late 1960s I met Fr. Raymond in Potiscum and stayed in the Mission House on a number of occasions. He was always welcoming and a great conversationalist.I shall remember him with great respect and admiration. I have just finished reading his excellent book "The Adamawa Mission: Sowing the Seed". A great account of the wonderful work of the OSA missions in N. Nigeria. May Fr. Ray rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of the recent demise of Father Raymond, brother of my dear friend Gladys. He kindly joined my family for dinner, on one of his return visits and Gladys took a Christmas Cake I baked, out to him in Nigeria on one of her many visits. A kind and gentle person who will be sadly missed most by his only sister, our dear Gladys. May his soul be as loved in Heaven as he was on earth. Rest in peace Raymond.

So so sad to hear of Fr Raymond’s death. I had the privilege of knowing Raymond while teaching in Nigeria in the “ long ago “ and what a kind and hospitable gentleman he was. On a 500 mile trip to the far North myself and 3 Irish girls got stuck in a sand accumulation in the “bush”. Fr Raymond and a Fr Mernagh rescued us and brought us to the Mission House, in a small village called Potiscum, fed us and gave us comfy beds for the night. They wisely advised us to abandon our journey! We heeded their advice! May the Lord welcome him with open arms.

My heartfelt condolences go to all the members of the Order of St. Augustine and the family of Fr. Ray Hickey OSA in this moment of grief. Take solace in Christ who is the Resurrection and the Life. We are all beneficiaries of the missionary activities of Fr. Ray OSA. His life is worth emulation. He loved Christ to the end and he was a priest who was always thankful to God. Fr Raymond Hickey OSA could not make three sentences without saying, "Thank God." My experience with him shows that he was a very simple, humble and prayerful priest. Kindly accept my condolences and may God whom he served grant him eternal rest. Amen.
— Bishop Hilary Dachelem, CMF, Bishop of Bauchi, Nigeria
Fr Raymond Hickey OSA was a veteran missionary who evangelised my people who never knew Christ in the early 1960s. Fr. Ray lived and ate with them. He established many Churches and lived a very simple and prayerful life. From Bauchi, I travelled to Jos, a journey of about 120 kilometres, to see him and to pray with him on June 10, 2021. Through his missionary works, I
am priest of God in the Catholic Diocese of Bauchi. May God grant him eternal rest.
— Fr Benjamin Usakule Garba, Bauchi Diocese, Nigeria
