Shocked to hear of the passing of my auld buddy Fran. Played soccer in the early 80's with him on the GPO team. When Mary was the taxi driver going to matches. We stayed friends for all those years afterwards even when I left Dublin we would meet up for matches in Lansdowne Rd, having drinks in the ESB club and numerous watering holes. Can remember calling to Castleknock early on a Sunday and driving over his Sunday newspapers of which there were many in a bale. Shreaded them . To Mary and all his family my condolences. RIP Buddy

I was very sorry to hear of Fran's passing. A thoroughly decent man who was good to me with both his time and his thoughts.

He'll be in my thoughts, as will his family, and I will always remember him fondly.

I first met Fran when he joined the Dept of Posts and Telegraphs as a callow youth in 1975. I soon learned he was anything but that. A born organiser who was a force field in everything he did, be it the GPO Social Club, the GPO women's football team and player manager of the men's equivalent. It was obvious even then that Fran had a strong organisational ability and this, combined with his undoubted leadership qualities, marked him out as someone who was going to make his mark in whatever he chose to do.

He had a very sharp mind and prodigious memory. He could recall even the most insignificant events in a flash, whether it was work or sports related. He and I gelled well both in and out of the office and had many an earnest discussion on sport, politics and business - he had very wide ranging interests and his opinions were always worth listening to.

My brother Dermot and I played football with him when he took over the player-managership of Colepark FC in Ballyfermot in 1984 - no task was beyond this man and he was always up for a challenge.

Sadly, we lost contact in recent years but time has not diminished the great memories I have of him, his family in Annaly Road and his former wife Mary, another great character whom I got to know very well.

My condolences to his partner Jackie, his children Yvonne, David and Laura and their partners and not forgetting his grandchildren of whom he was very proud.

May you rest in peace, Fran.

Mary, Yvonne, David, Laura, sending you much love and prayers at this unbelievably difficult time. I was so shocked to hear of Fran's passing, another beautiful soul taken far too soon. Will never forget having had the pleasure of working along side Fran in Baltimore Technologies where he followed his dream and brought us all along for the the most amazing journey. His belief in himself and in all his staff was a testament to his intelligence, positive attitude and appetite for success for everyone involved. His motto 'Cogito, ergo sum' (I think therefore I am) taught me and many more that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and build the right team around you, never forgetting to have fun along the way. I have so many many great memories of time spent with you all back in the good ole days and I will treasure these always. Fran gave many of us in the business world our wings and let us fly. Godspeed and fly high now Fran. RIP
Regretfully I was unable to attend the Funeral.
