I remember Frank, my teacher in Toonagh National School in the 1960s, with great affection. As a young child, he inspired and encouraged me to appreciate and enjoy education. He helped me understand the freedom and wisdom that education could offer to all of humanity. For that, I will always be grateful. May you rest in peace Frank. Thank you. Kathleen

Mo chomhbhrón le Seán, Carmel, Teresa, Nora, Mary, Francis, Catherine, Tola, agus garchlann Frank.

Bhí beirt Frank ann agus chothromaigh siad a chéile amach.

Bhí ardmheas ar an bhfáilte fuinniúil Frank a chuir seisiúin agus damhsaí ar siúl i Halla Toonagh.

Ní bhfuair mé deis fiafraí de:

cén fáth nár inis sé dúinn faoi Phaidir an Iomána agus na 256 Triad Gaelacha ón 9ú hAois leis na Goltraí, Geantraí agus Suantraí ?

Lig Dia agus an Diabhal troid thar Frank anois.

Nach iontach an t-ainm a bheadh é seo ar fonn traidisiúnta ?

Comhbhrón ó chroí do Teresa, Tóla agus muintir Custy uilig, ar bhás brónach Frank, RIP..
Ní ró-mhinic a chas mé ar Frank, amach as, ag an bhFleadh Nua, ach ba shoiléir é, gur fear uasal, séimh, cairdiúil, flaithiúil, ceolmhar a bhí ann. Bhí mé thar a bheith tógtha leis, chomh maith le chuile rud a chuala mé, faoi an méid oibre a rinne sé i rith a shaoil, dá a phobal áitiúil fhéin, dá a scoláirí agus na ceoltóirí óga, dá an iománaíocht, ceol traidisiúnta, Cois na hAbhna agus rl. Duine ar leith a bhí ann, cinnte.

Go ndéanfaidh Dia trócaire ar a anam uasal. Ní imithe uainn atá sé, ach imithe romhainn.

(Tóla, tá garmhac dom darb ainm Tóla, in a chónaí ins an Spáinn)

To Teresa, Tola, Mary, Nora, Francis and Catherine and extended family, heartfelt condolences at this sad time for you all with the passing of Frank.
He was my first teacher, for tinwhistle, as he started the classes for CCE Barefield thanks to my mum asking Frank's advice & his helping the branch to get the classes going.
I’ve fond memories of many Friday nights at Toonagh Parish hall, a 1st stepping stone, for Mary and myself, to play with others; and yes Tola, I absolutely remember how he started each set of tunes! making it inclusive and joyful for us all.
Let music continue to be a voice of hope, togetherness and solace for you all.
— Josie Nugent
Heartfelt sympathies to Teresa, Nora, Tola, Mary & the rest of the Custy family on the very sad passing of Frank. I have many fond memories of Friday night kitchen sessions in Toonagh Hall where many members of the community and afar would come to play a 'few tunes' and learn a few more along the way. Frank had a huge influence on my interest in music as a child. He was an incredible teacher and mentor, always encouraging his students and giving everyone ample opportunity to learn and develop. He has left behind a huge legacy. He will be greatly missed in Toonagh. May he rest in peace.

I would like to offer my sincere sympathy to Teresa and all Franks family, Carmel & Bob, and Sean. I’m sorry I was unable to attend the funeral, but you were in my thoughts and prayers today. I watched the mass online this evening. It was a lovely mass and fitting celebration of Frank’s life. He would have enjoyed the music and singing right throughout. And Tola you gave a great account of him.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.

I'm deeply saddened by Frank's passing and extend my deepest sympathies to the Custy family.

Frank's impact was immense. As our headmaster, he was more than a teacher; he was an integral part of our lives, sharing his love for music, Irish dancing, and sports with patience, kindness, and enthusiasm. He supported each of us unconditionally - I remember musical instruments magically appearing for those who couldn’t afford them to try out and he encouraged the best, and worst :-) musicians with the same energy. He built a vibrant community for all of us - those Friday night ceilis and numerous other events were unforgettable. He transformed Toonagh school hurling matches into lessons on teamwork, respect, spirit and grit. Frank's magic lay in his belief in each of us, even when we didn’t believe in ourselves. He taught us that with hard work and dedication, we could achieve anything - a lesson that continues to guide many of us through life.

Rest in Peace, Frank. You have given so much to so many. Your legacy will live on in the countless lives you've touched. Thank you for everything. Xx

Sincere sympathy to Teresa and Frank’s family on the very sad passing of Frank.

Frank was a legend and an icon in Toonagh and beyond. At school he was a very inclusive teacher who was a great inspiration to us all in his classroom. In Toonagh National School he gave us the confidence to express ourselves and nurture our talents. We really enjoyed performing our music and plays at the Christmas concerts each year and another great thrill for us was playing hurling every lunch time in Frank’s field under his watchful eye. Frank instilled great Irish values in us and he passed on his love of traditional music and sport to all of us in Toonagh National School.

In recent years he was always willing to help out with the amplification and sound for our school concerts and occasions. We will miss meeting him as he went on his daily walk past our school while always stopping for a quick chat. Frank was a gentleman to the end. He was a brilliant mentor and friend to me over many years and I will miss him greatly. Heaven has gained a great one. Rest in Peace Frank.

U14 Ceili Band that won the All Ireland in 1972 afantastic achievment. We celebebrated our 50th with Frank 2years ago. Our families grew closer inthose early 70s. Frank used bring 2school teams Boys and Girls to Inagh in thAutumn and early Summer for football hurling and camogie games which we refereed in turn and which always happened to end in a draw .We werent interested in winning .We wanted the children just to enjoy their sport ! I have a great memories of going to Toonagh hall at the céili dancing classes in our youth where he used to have his music students play for us. As an adult learner of music I enjoyed going to any session he was involved in especially at the Fleadh Nua in Ennis.
God Bless His Soul!

Frank was such a lovely man and a generous music teacher. My friends and I in Letterfrack had the good fortune to enjoy many classes with Frank. I will always remember the time he took after a class to teach me my Grandmothers favourite tune.
Sending the Custy family our sincere sympathies at this difficult time.
