Condolences to Susan and family on the death of Frank. Definitely a one off and magnificent contributor to high quality orthopaedics in the state. I found him a fantastic character who was unforgettable. His era of giant characters in Orthopaedics was unique. He was a key player for decades in the Mater and his high worth was always acknowledged in Beaumont. Thanks Frank for what you did for thousands.
— Bill Tormey Beaumont
There is no words to describe the absolute gratitude I have for Dr. McManus. From just a few moments after I came to this earth myself, I was in the care of this wonderful surgeon. He gave me the ability and uses of my physical health (feet) and I have thrived everyday since. His bedside manner and ability to calm me in my youth, made me love to visit him at his chambers near the Mater hospital. He will be missed, but his legacy will live on in all those who’s lives he had touched and saved. Love William Delaney

Really sorry to hear the sad news of Frank’s passing. We met Frank 30 years ago after Andrew was born with Talipes in the Rotunda. We dealt with Frank constantly until 1999, almost twice a week. It was a very difficult time in our lives but Frank ( or uncle Frank as he was to Andrew) was so very kind to us always and we were so grateful for all his support and advice over those years. Andrew is now working in the Mater Hospital and had met him a few times there. He sat with us in an Indian restaurant in Clontarf 5 years ago and gave Andrew more advice as to what he might do in the future. Our deepest condolences to the family, we will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers. Rest In Peace Frank
— Garry, Olivia & Andrew Deane
We owe an immense debt to Frank McManus. Without his expertise and commitment our son would have been destined for a life with severe scoliosis. He diagnosed a spinal tumour, removed it and Paul has never looked back from those months in the mid 1970s in Cappagh. We have never forgotten his gift to us. May his noble, courageous and spirited soul rest in peace and may his beloved family be comforted by the enormous good that he did. From Roscrea we send our love and gratitude
.

I first met Frank when I was given an honorary fellowship to FRCSI July 2009/ When he found out my mother was Irish and I gave an original 1917 printed diary of my Great Great Grandfather Major Howard Egan's account of "Pioneering the West" United States 1847 1872 to the College, we became friends. He told me I was Irish, as my mother was Irish. I met him as many times as I came back to Dublin to teach at the Polytrauma Courses at the College. I am very saddened at your loss. One of the finest and honest men I have ever met.

My sincere sympathy to the McManus family on the death of Mr McManus. This man is a real life hero of mine. By way of explanation when I was 12 years of age I had an accident playing football which resulted in the growth line being severed in my right leg from knee to hip. At 14 I had to have a high heel added to my shoe. My parents god be good to them were as keen as I was to see if anything could be done, as I have a huge interest in sport. In early 1982 at the age of 16 my mother and I met Mr McManus for the first time. I had never seen anyone wear a bow tie to work! We were immediately drawn to him. His positivity and can do approach were most striking and our feet did not touch the ground coming away from our consultation with him. The deal we made was he would do the surgery and I would do the work afterwards to make it a success. That summer I went to Cappagh and had a leg lengthening surgery done which was very new at the time. Mr McManus and his team were outstanding. His sense of humour and encouragement to get on with the recovery was top class. I spent 3 wonderful months in Hospital. I am very happy to say I went on to have a club GAA playing career of over 20 years. The scar I carry on my leg is a really wonderful reminder of the opportunity afforded to me by Mr McManus and I am very grateful always for this. May you rest in peace.
— Andrew Grene

Sincere sympathy to you Susie and family on the death of Frank. I first met him in the 70s. He operated on my back in 1979 and it is still good today.
