Frank and I have been best friends for 45 years.

With Frank, you knew you were his friend. It was unambiguous, unflinching, and enduring. Through thick and thin, over those 45 years, Frank was always available, with a wise ear and sensible advice. He showed absolute loyalty to those who he chose as his friends.

From that incredible, seemingly endless summer of 1976, when I first met him, through all the complexities of career, relationships, success, and setbacks he was a rock on whom you could always depend. His friendship was simple, intelligent, and above all entertaining.

His proudest achievements are his 2 wonderful sons, Ryan, and Paul, who I now count as friends, as I do all the O’Dea family, with Liam and the Mater Familias, the Lady Margot, never forgotten.

Frank and Helen’s enduring friendship was an immense credit to them both.

And of course, there is his ultimate friend, Denise, with whom he found friendship’s truest expression, when he married her just 2 years and 5 months ago.

So, Frank, on behalf of all your friends from Greenlea Road, Tempelogue College, St Mary’s Rugby Club, Terenure Rugby Club, The Irish Air Corps, the Castle Golf Club, Copt Heath Golf Club in the UK, and finally his most recently found family and friends through Denise – with a very special mention for Aisling and Eoin – thank you.
