You made us face the dark corners in our country and opened dialogue about subjects certain people would have preferred were kept in the dark. You were one in a million Mr. Gay Byrne. He was a wonderful presenter for "The Late Late Show" & "The Toy Show." Thank you Gay may you rest in peace. So many happy childhood memories in the 1970's in Ireland and your voice part of our daily life. A real treat to be sick from school and listen in as our mother worked away happily in the kitchen tuned in religiously to the Gay Byrne hour.

Full of real empathy, integrity, honour, and a unique and fascinating capacity to connect with all people. I loved listening to his morning show and you never knew what you were going to get on a weekend evening with the Late Late Show. He gave the people of Ireland a voice and did so much for many of us, more than he could have imagined. He deserves to rest in peace. He'll be welcomed at the Pearly Gates of Heaven I'm sure :-)

Gay was a national treasure. But he equalled and I would say he betters any international presenters out there today. An icon, a legend. Beyond wonderful. I truly hope he knew how good he was. Loved him.

Sincere Sympathy and much admiration to Kathleen, a dignified woman, who is an example to us all. His children and grandchildren. I have missed Gay on his morning programme and television, always hoping he’d be back sometime. But God decided it was not to be. From when we bought our home in 1970 and I had to give up my job, Gay was my constant companion, at what was a lonely time for me. He made me laugh and cry. He was a brilliant broadcaster who made you feel he was having a conversation with you only. It felt like he was in the room with you. Wouldn’t miss a morning with the radio or a Late Late Show. Met him walking in Howth a couple of times and said hello. Would not have interrupted his walk or thoughts at that time but sorry Now I missed the opportunity to chat with such a remarkable, good, caring human. Rest in peace Gabriel Byrne be happy with the Angels.
