Firstly, my sincere condolences to Geoff’s family and friends. I did not know Geoff personally but like many, I suspect in a way, we all knew a bit of the essence of him. I grew up queueing to get in to Geoffs, such was it’s enduring popularity. I got my first job in Gino’s pizza across the road, having a drink in Geoff’s. Geoff created a special place, iconic in the hearts of Waterford people where we gathered to chat and drink in a home from home. May Geoff rest in peace and his legacy live on.
— Waterford
First went to Geoff’s in 1979 when I moved to Waterford, I just felt such a connection with the place. As for Geoff he was the coolest dude in Waterford. He has left a great legacy for everyone to still enjoy. I have such great memories spending my time in Geoff’s and anyone who came to visit me the only place to bring them was Geoff’s. Geoff was so friendly and always spoke to me and his staff were brilliant and would put your favorite music on when you came in. My deepest condolences to all his family but be proud of the happy memories he gave to so many people. RIP Geoff.
— Anne Dalton

So sad to hear of Geoffs passing, one of the true genuine gentle men and someone who set out to lead a different life.
First time I met him I was with my brother Peadar, I was 15 they were 21. It was the Dandelion Market on a Sunday evening early January. Geoff was sitting outside one of the stalls with long curly dark red hair and a Frank Zappa beard and moustache, he was surveying the scene as only he could, he was the coolest dude in the place, I wanted to be him. I think everyone there wanted to be him.

He was always so genuinely interested in what you were doing, always questioning and then that wicket sense of humour.
Years later spending weekends in the pub, it was the coolest bar in Ireland. The Sunday walks and roasts. Now it’s just the best!
Love to Brian and Dave and rest of the family.
Rock on Geoff Rock on!
— John Smith

Thanks Geoff for all the memories, meeting olde and new friends over the last 45 years. I will always remember with fondness the olde Sunday opening times, that hour and a half from 12:30 to 14:00 maybe longer on some occasions, meeting up to reminisce about the Friday and Saturday night and then home to Mammy for the Sunday roast, I'd be still singing the songs in my head all week in work from what I had heard that weekend in the bar.
Sincere condolences to your Mam, brothers, sisters and extended family.
Go now my friend and take your place with all the other Waterford legends above.
Rest in peace Geoff...

I worked in Geoffs from '86 to '88 inclusive. Fond memories of the buzz, the music, the frenetic pace, the controlled chaos, especially at the weekends, the doorstep sandwiches, the staff, the laughs with Shay ,Bruno , Peter , Anne Marie ,Dave, Michelle, Trish, Maria , Mick, Andy and others... and behind it all, Geoff, sitting in his snug with his Frank Zappa moustache and espresso, cooly surveying the scene, his creation of a singularly unique atmosphere and meeting place in the heart of Waterford that would be hard to equal anywhere.

Rest in Peace Geoff and my sincere condolences to Geoffs immediate family and many friends 🙏
— Richard

So sorry to hear that Geoff has left us. When I first met him he seemed impossibly cool but also a lovely man. He created a place that was very important to us. We drank many(many) pints and endless mugs of tea. Met old friends and new people. Talked nonsense. Talked serious. Laughed a lot. It was where we went to be who we were. Cheers Geoff. Thank you.
