So many memories of running in Phoenix Park from Longmeadows with George. He made such a huge contribution to the establishment of our clubhouse in that idyllic part of Chapelizod. His work in this regard was probably never fully appreciated but it benefited generations of DCH athletes.
Your friends and fellow athletes will always miss your smile and humour, George, and you will be remembered in our prayers.
— Deirdre and Dermot Nagle, Dublin City Harriers

I just heard the sad news and would like to pass on my condolences to all of George's family. Such a lovely man, I loved working on a Sunday night in Mulligan's and having time to listen to his stories and chat and, of course, singing goodnight to all the regulars. RIP George, you'll be missed by all in Mulligan's x
— Lorraine Doyle
Rest in Peace George and Sincerest Sympathies to your Family and close friends. A Lovely Gentleman gone.
— Alan Byrne
What a guy. George had great understanding and empathy for his fellow man. I worked as a casual on the "jigger" with him many times. Your boss during the day, he would have a pint and a sing song with you that evening. Always great company. I remember a staff issue in Killarney that George smoothed over with great diplomacy and aplomb.
— Ken Doherty
A great man on a bicycle. Always my pleasure to meet him in the Phoenix Park and have a yarn. He'll be missed on the Kyber Pass. Sincere Condolences.
— Michael Moore
Many a duĺl morning was brighter after George greeted me on his bicycle while I was running in the phoenix park, the old radio hanging from the handle bars, tanned and cheerful, smartly dressed his greeting always the same "beautiful morning " (even in the winter time) his love of life infectious, his attitude and positivity exemplary. I never once felt sad or down after my chats with George, so sad to hear of his passing, without doubt he will be sadly missed by many a jogger in the phoenix park.. Rest in peace George.

Angela, Maria and Trish. So very sorry to hear about your beautiful Dad passing. George was truly one of life's real gentlemen. A man of great empathy, heart and humour. Very hard not to like George, and when you got to know him, you had to love him. He always made me feel welcome in his home, it was a right he bestowed upon you, he never made it a privilege. I can see him now, holding court at the kitchen table on card night. The warmth, the banter, the laughter. Fond memories.

Pat and George, together again,

Love and sympathy,

Harry

The golden voice is now silent.
The many gatherings ring empty now.
No more will we be greeted with the welcoming and smiling eyes.
Where everyone was a best friend.
The evening that started with “Things are very bad Christy” was the start of a meaningful conversation, which was then rendered down to mere detail, and then the solution. The words of wisdom no longer flow
The signature exits on a Sunday night: “Goodbye” “Goodbye” we wish you all a last goodbye. Has been heard for the last time.

The Harp that once through Tara’s hall’s
The soul of music shed.
Now hangs as mute on Tara’s walls.
As if that soul were fled.

To Angela, Trish, Maria, Brother Aidan and sister, and your families our sincerest sympathy.
