Our sincere condolences go to Declan, Mary and all Gerry’s family and close friends at this sad time.
Our warm memories of Gerry go back to the 1970s and the fun we had in the 420 class before he moved to 505s and then on to Flying Fifteens. Gerry was always a great competitor and international representative of his country, his club, his fleet and, above all, himself.
May he rest in peace.
— Jack & Rosemary Roy

In remembrance of our dear uncle Ger, we have all been greatly saddened by his passing. The messenger apps in recent years had shortened the distance around the world from us to him and always remember fondly our time as 2 young brothers bringing us out sailing and playing with all the army soldiers and mini-tanks in his house with the 2 older brothers my father Declan and Ger, watching on. We will miss you dearly.
— Paul, Liana & Evie
Our sincere condolences to Declan and Mary on the passing of your brother Gerry. Gerry was a mentor to so many of us in the National Yacht Club and in the Flying Fifteen fleet. He was one of life's true gentlemen who was always there to provide advice and assistance. He was also a good friend, who enjoyed discussing the sporting issues of the day.
We will miss you greatly in the days and years ahead!
Fair winds Gerry on your final voyage!
— Lorcan and Deirdre Balfe
Farewell dear brother and uncle Gerry. We will miss you very much. Your great passion for sailing enabled you to visit Australia many times. You renewed your family ties with your nephews and enjoyed watching the Sydney to Hobart yacht races. May you rest in a more peaceful place and find a good wind for sailing a flying fifteen around heaven.
You will remain in our hearts forever, Love Always, Declan, Sandra, Paul, Brian and Sean
— Declan, Sandra, Paul, Brian and Sean Donleavy
Our sincere condolences are extended to you Mary and to the extended family on the passing of Gerald. May he Rest In Peace.

Coming from a simple Windsurfer... Flying Fifteens had so many ropes, bits and bobs! Gerry helped me to make sense of it all. Always there with advice and encouragement, Gerry fitted out our winning boat 'Deranged.' I'll never forget the great times we spent racing with him at home, in the Isle of Wight and Australia. Thank you Gerry from Shane and all your friends in Dunmore East and WHSC
— Shane Statham

— Joe and Patricia Waldron
My sincere condolences to the family and friends. I briefly lived across the road from Gerry and having the simple act of a new neighbour nod and wave was so reassuring, especially moving in to a new area during such strange times. Reading the words of those who knew him I am saddened even further, I think we would have much to talk about.
— Elaine

Very shocked saddened at Gerry's sudden passing. He has been a friend and sailing buddy since 1979, always generous with advice and information on sailing and boat maintainance, and always pleasant company; whether the conversation was about golf, or motor racing or cars, or TV technology, he usually had something interesting to say. A true gentleman. I will miss him.
