It is with great sadness that I learned that Gerry had passed away. I knew Gerry through the motor industry and not being a football fan knew very little of his great achievements other than he used to play football. What an understatement when reading his obituary today. It was a great pleasure to have known Gerry through our motor business endeavours where he unselfishly gave his time and advice which was always sound. My sincere condolences to Evelyn, David, Patrick, Gina and the extended Mackey family.
— Brian Murphy, SIMI Past President 1988 to 89

They enjoyed the best of times with the golden Shamrock Rovers side of the 60’s both at the prime of their lives ... respected each other’s talents as footballers.. and were passionate about the game of football giving of their time so generously along the way to schoolboy clubs and charity fund raisers.
May he rest in Peace ..

Sincere condolences to the Mackey Family on the passing of their Dad. He was Mr. Mackey to us, in SYC back in the early 70s and no Team ever had such a Coach. He taught Soccer skills and tactics and the same for Life as well, safe to say, he was adored by all the young Players. He was a natural right-footed Footballer, but practiced hard, "Ball and Wall" and secured his place at Shamrock Rovers and later for Ireland. He Captained Ireland at 3 age levels and that's his own personal record. I would phone him, now and again, and enjoy running things by him, for his intelligent comment. He loved Golf also, and was very competitive off 5 handicap, and play his part in a Team event.
I know he loved his Wife and family very much, so Evelyn, David, Paddy and Gina, sorry for you loss.
Ar dhéis Dé go raibh a Anam dhílis.
