So very sorry to hear of Gerry's passing - May he Rest In Peace.

I am very sorry to hear about the passing away of Gerry Ellis. My sincere condolences to his family at this difficult time.
2 years ago, I received 2 emails from him when he was retiring. The first, a week in advance of his retirement, giving people a heads up. It read – ‘Any final advice would be gratefully welcomed and any I can provide prior to departure would be equally happily provided’. I thought it was a great idea/gesture and I just called him. We spoke for good 15 mins or so and I learnt so much about his incredible journey. His contribution to the world of differently abled is so amazing and inspiring. He had this go-getter attitude. Post his retirement, he had great plans for learning AI related things and so much more. There was no end in sight for him as far as learning and keeping active was concerned.
In his 2nd email on the day of his retirement, he wrote – ‘Today is my final day in BOI after more than 40 years. To celebrate, take Friday off, in fact, take Monday off as well’. It was Good Friday and Easter Monday - bank holidays !
His email clearly showed how he overcame the challenges and reached where he did, where no one expected him (others like him - his words) to reach.
His legacy lives on. Gerry wrote: ‘Turn your faces up to the Sun and don’t let others tell you what you can and can’t achieve. Find mentors, be mentors for others and imagine where you want to be next. If you can see it, you can be it!’ That was so totally him.

My sincere condolences to Sandra, Owen and Conor.

Gerry has made a lasting impression on my professional and personal life. I'll always cherish the insight and confidence he shared in our chats both with a pint or in the canteen where he "bumped" himself in a new group of people or to the front of the queue respectively.
Gerry will live on not only through his extensive campaining and public speaking in so many places. He'll always have a special place in so many people's hearts as the larger-than-life character he was.

Rest in peace up there, buddy!
There are lots of great musicians waiting for you already, may you enjoy the concerts just as you did down here.
