Sincerest condolences.
— Bernadette McCann
So sorry to hear of your dad’s death. My late husband Michael Giles was a classmate of your dads and we were great friends with both Gerry and Eileen. May he rest in peace. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
— Phil Giles
Sincere sympathy to Gerry's children and their spouses, his grandchildren, his siblings and all his family. How fortunate you all were, to have such a wonderful father, grandfather and caring person for the head of your family.

I met Gerry online only when he wrote to me after my dna results appeared in 2018. But I am missing him almost as much as if we had known each other in the same country. We are second cousins, once removed and I have McCann ancestry on both sides of my family (O'Hanlon & Smyth).

I will miss our discussions of these many ancestors and even on the current political situations. Gerry was incredibly giving and one of the nicest people that I've ever met. God speed, cousin Gerry.
— Margaret O'Hanlon Healy

Very sorry to hear of Gerard's passing. We met in person at the first McCann reunion in Mullaghbawn after a chance encounter with his brother Eugene the year before led to a phone call to Gerard, and some of us Canadians with McCann ancestry making a connection and being invited to the reunion. I have fond memories of that trip and Gerard's friendliness. Condolences to his family from Canada.

Dear Geraldine, Catherine, Fergus and John.

I first met your father socially many years ago at a conference or meeting in my very early years after graduating. I had never forgotten him from then. He was such a nice man.
I met him again professionally when he assisted me in getting a serious part of his work (and mine) in early computerisation in agriculture in ACOT/Teagasc, into my teaching programmes in the UCD School of Agriculture quite some years before the reality of the Internet (late 1980’s early 1990’s). It was gratifying to have AGRILINE in operation in UCD and ACOT/Teagasc in those early years with its useful, functional, new and creative systems of that time. I often turned to Gerry and the late Michael Harkin for help when I needed it and which was always given. What a great and committed professional Gerry was as an agricultural scientist. He was a most charming and kind man and to whom I will always be grateful for the interest he took in me.
I met Gerry quite often in his and later my retirement years by chance around the Stillorgan /Mount Merrion area, when we were both food shopping.
I extend to you all, my sincerest and deepest condolences on the loss of your Dad, and your second parent. May Gerry now Rest in Peace.
I regret to say that I will miss visiting Gerry due to being absence from the area, before and at the time of his funeral.
— Dermot Ruane, Emeritus, UCD Agricuture, and Stillorgan.
