Frances and Joan. My commiserations to you on the loss of your brother.
I have very fond, distance memories of Jerdy (as we called him … not sure how it would have been spelt .. or if anyone else called him that) when we were children living next door to each other in Park Avenue.
One abiding memory is of the family car breaking down on my elder brother Frank’s first communion day and Jerdy coming to the rescue and taking Frank to Sandymount Church on the crossbar of his bike! Ever the hero!
My sympathies also to Jacinta, Richard, Tara and Barry on your sad loss.

Very sad and sorry that my cousin Gerry has left us. He fought a good fight but, in truth, it was one that he couldn't win. His passing will be a great loss for Jacinta, their children and Joan and Frances and the many friends he had.

Exactly one year older than me, I have some great memories of Gerry going back c.70 years. I can remember picking orchids in his dad's nurseries on Park Ave with my brother Robbie and hiding the ones we managed to break as his dad wouldn't have been pleased. The two water tanks were a convenient bathing spot for the three of us. I can remember him daring me as a c.8 year old to jump off the 8th step on the stairs of their home into the hall. Of course I did it and landed beside the grandfather clock which promptly stopped and never worked again! A very tolerant family, I expected to be lambasted but never heard a word afterwards! I can also remember Christmas day in Park Ave when our two families would get together for a very fine meal prepared by Gerry's mum Maeve.

Mary and I often walk from our home down to the Martello Tower, on into Sandymount and back home by Park Avenue. I stop outside the block of apartments that now occupies the site of the house and nurseries and let nostalgia take over.

Gerry has left a very fine legacy in the form of his wonderful children Tara, Richard and Barry who would be a credit to any parents. In addition, Gerry got huge fun out of his grandchildren.

Gerry will leave fond memories. May he Rest in Peace.
