To Stephen, Jean, Raymond, Audrey, Mark and Mary-Pat, please accept my deepest condolences on the death of Gerard. I am overwhelmed with the fondest of memories of warmth, welcoming and hilarity at Knockard. The extraordinary bond between all of you, and with Mary (Mrs. Nicholas to me), was magnificent, and utterly unique. To lose one of your seven is profoundly painful, and I am deeply saddened for you. May Gerard rest in peace. With love to you all

I would like to express my condolences to Gerry's family and friends.
Having had the privilege to work with Gerry in London in the late 1980s (and enjoyed many lunches with him since), it was with real sadness that I had to issue a note to my munch bunch list of 100+ former Bank of Ireland colleagues to relay the message that Gerry had died.
Numerous old pals responded. Some have added their condolences here. All of us who had the good fortune to work with Gerry, or even just to encounter him socially, agree that he was a larger than life character. He was a fine big handsome man, very bright, charming and a witty raconteur with a huge appetite for life.
No one ever thought this accountant was boring! He had charisma.
He was a pretty good banker too. Younger colleagues describe him as a "true Legend”.
We'll miss him but this will be a great loss to his family and many old friends. I hope they will be consoled by the knowledge that he was loved by many but loved them most. He was a man of the world who always spoke fondly of his family and Limerick, his home.
May he rest in peace.
— Peter Simons, London
