My brother James called me this morning to tell me that Des had died and the memories came flooding back of our years together at Bank of Ireland Borris where he was my guide and mentor .I recall so clearly Des & Jean and the family living in the bank house and the smell of Jean’s baking wafting through the office these were without any doubt my happiest years in the bank .
Des was most helpful to me in my career as he was to many others he was always considered in his comments and sound in his advice .
I called to see them in 2019 on a beautiful summers afternoon and we had a lovely time chatting in the garden .
I spoke to Jean some months ago on the phone and she appeared to be in good form .The COVID restrictions prevented me from calling this summer .
I did know of Jean’s death till today so I have lost two dear and long standing friends in the same morning .
Des ever the gentleman and Jean a wonderful lady and lifetime companion and support I was indeed privileged to have known them both .
We offer our sincerest and heartfelt condolences to Melanie ,Neil & Clive and the extended family .
Go lasfaidh solas na bhflaitheas go reidh orthu - May the light of Heaven shine gently on them
