The Family of Josie and Nicholas O’Keeffe

Dear Cousins,

Our hearts and prayers will be accompanying you on Monday at the funeral Mass for your mother at Our Lady of the Snows in Broadford. Though years and miles separate us, the bonds binding family and Faith remain strong. We in the USA hold dear those who remained in Ireland.
I still treasure my 1946 summer visiting Mt. Plummer with my parents and brother Dennis. Uncle Nick and Aunt Mary, both still single, welcomed us as we played in the lush green of Ireland. On Sundays we prayed at Our Lady of Snow, and nightly the Rosary was prayed by the fireplace and led by our grandfather.
Though I never had the pleasure of meeting your mother Josie, my parents developed a loving relationship over their many return visits to Ireland, and we have a treasury of photos taken of you as a young family. Visits with Aunt Mary and Uncle Paddy’s likewise cemented family bonds over the years. Tearfully I attended Mass my last Sunday in Ireland at Our Lady of the Snows, gratefully recalling the days when my Father and Uncle Tim had prayed there before departing for America, never to see their mother again. This holy church had been the spiritual home for so many of our family. May Christ’s peace embrace you as you return your mother to His loving arms.

We are very proud, that we have met such a kind and humble woman with such a special sense of humor. RIP Josie.
