When we heard the sad news of Hilda passing away we were looking out over Moore Bay in Kilkee, much loved by Hilda as well as her immediate and extended family.
The names of Carmody and Haugh are synonymous with this area and along with the Sun over the ocean bring to mind a great life and many happy times.

Hilda’s generosity, inclusion and curiosity about our lives were to the fore when in 1976 - 4 of us (16/17 year olds) arrived in Kilkee to stay with the Haugh’s for a few days before cycling on to Kerry. She almost certainly had concerns about our welfare but it never interfered with our sense of adventure.

Having survived that wonderful summer and continuing to frequent the Haugh household, I never met anything other than a positive outlook. Her ability to enthuse about the opportunities and achievements of others were both impressive and empowering.

Much sympathy to John T and all of the family.

RIP Hilda
