Hugh was the nicest cousin. he had great empathy and the gift of making the person he was talking with feel special. I hope he knew how much we liked and valued him.
Warmest wishes and sympathy to you, you must be feeling his loss deeply.

I'm thinking of the lines from Henry van Dyke, using a ship metaphor:

"...And, just at the moment when someone says, There, she is gone,
there are other eyes watching her coming,
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout,
Here she comes.

And that is dying."
— Philomena Larkin
As one of Hugh’s students in the Veterinary College I have to say he was an outstanding teacher who went beyond the call of duty to help each and everyone of his students. A true gentleman and my sincere condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.
