James (Jim) Fitzpatrick

R.I.P. Jim Fitzpatrick you will be sorely missed by all who knew you. Thank you so much for your generosity help and intelligent commentary on my PhD thesis. And for offering my students a tour of your offices and printing presses. And for all the commitment to peace faith in the future and making time for answering questions from some young people - from Ireland and from England - all equally unskilled in northern Irish history and politics. We will have to start asking ourselves the questions you could answer so eloquently. You were an inspiration to us all, may your soul find peace in heaven

I wish to convey heartfelt sympathy to all the family on Jim’s death.
I only had one long conversation with Jim, after we had both attended Mass in the same church on the Malone Road. He struck me as a man of deep faith and moral conviction, and also gentle and compassionate .

My sincere condolences to Anne, Brid, Bernard, Eileen, Dominic, Clare, Jim and Andrew, and to all of Jim's family. He was huge to my family. Like no other in the past 50 years. And he honoured us by travelling to Kerry for occasions important to us. Thank you for facilitating those trips. I apologise for not being present today to salute Jim's life, I have just heard this sad news unfortunately. You are all very much in my thoughts. Rest in peace Jim.

Deepest sympathy to the Fitzpatrick family on the sad passing of Jim. Although I only enjoyed the pleasure of meeting Jim a few times over his career, I was immediately struck by his values, integrity and compassion. . May he rest in everlasting peace.

I had the pleasure of meeting him through my involvement in publishing on a few occasions in London. He clearly led a very happy and contented life and contributed hugely to his family and the community across Northern Ireland. May he rest in peace. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.

Sincere sympathy to Dominic, Anne, Andrew and the rest of the Fitzpatrick family on the death of their beloved Dad. It was my privelege to have known Jim and to share his company on two trips to separate locations in France and Belgium in recent years
He was an inspirational and extraordinary man who had a great love for his family, for Belfast and his faith, a faith which gave him great strength in difficult times.
His committment to his community was exemplified through his newspaper,
The Irish News and his lifelong committment to achieving peace in Northern Ireland. He is a huge loss to all who knew him. We'll never see his like again.

Very sorry and saddened to learn of the passing of cousin Jim. My deepest condolences to all the family. A truly lovely man who always took time to speak to me and my family as he was very close to my mother. God rest his soul.
