My heartfelt sympathies to Christina and your family and while I worked for the most part with Jim's colleague Tommie Gorman in Sligo I escaped South to Jim a few times every year. Monsignor Horan you see was building this international airport in Knock and on national TV he asked Jim if he would keep it all hush hush. The Monsignor true to his word saw it through with more than a little help from Jim and some other guy Charlie. There was always a zany documentary in it and I could see the glint always in Jim's eye as he pulled together those strands in his mind's eye. Jim's documentary ended with a shot of the Monsignor walking away from camera into this rainbow Jim himself had spotted before I did crossing the runway. Jim has crossed under that same rainbow may he forever rest in Peace, forever the voice of The West.
— Tony Cournane

A most wonderful and respected reported. When you heard Jim's voice on radio or television you listened, he had something of interest to say or someone of interest to interview. I do hope that all his wonderful documentaries will be published, so the next generation will know what a wonderful observer of Irish life, particularly in the West of Ireland he was.
