We were deeply shocked and saddened to hear of Joan’s passing. After a two-year pandemic absence from Ireland, we were due to enjoy her wonderful hospitality this week. We will miss her exuberance, chat, zest and energy. Very fond memories of tennis at Glenageary Tennis Club. Reunited with Peter. Our condolences to the family and all friends.
— Peter and Valerie Newell
We were so saddened to hear of the passing of Joan. She seemed so fit and full of vitality when we last saw her in 2019. We met Joan in Sept 2018 with her lovely Alisha. We had 3 borzois then and were in the area house hunting with our dogs in the boot. We screeched to a halt when we saw Joan with her beautiful hound.
We were duly invited for tea, and the Anglo-Irish Borzoi Appreication Society (members: 3!) was born. We exchanged emails and Christmas cards until this year. We took Joan out for lunch on our return visits and visited her in her stunning home a number of times. She was great fun, kind, sweet and very hospitable. She was most encouraging towards our teenage son at Bandon Grammar.
The death of Alisha was a blow, and the deaths of our 2 older zoi girls followed early this year . I last wrote to Joan on 9/2 and was concerned we didn't hear from her, as she was a very reliable correspondent.
Many sympathies to her extended family. Warm and kind, she was a delightful person to be around. It was such a shock to read only yesterday (15/4) that she had passed away. Ahakista will be the emptier now. Fond love, Joan. RIP from your UK Borzoi friends xx xx

A light has gone out in West Cork. Lovely Joan was someone who would always smile and see the positive to any situation, she was an inspiration. We have shared many times of joy, and some of sadness too, working together in RAWR over the years. It was always heartwarming to see Joan and Peter arriving to join us, we knew there would be warmth, fun and love coming with them. We will miss you Joan, sleep well xx
