I'm so saddened by the sudden loss of Joe, a dear friend for over 20 years. We've shared many wonderful times together, meeting on a film set, and then visiting each other in Dublin, Monaghan, Derby, and London over several years, with a variety of friends and fun endeavours. We both share a love for music (especially live!) and had many lively and exciting discussions about gigs, bands and albums. I loved how incredibly smart and witty he was. He treated everyone with such respect, and my gosh, was he funny. I will forever cherish knowing Joe and will miss him very much.

I remember so clearly when he met Louise, and how happy he became - like he had found true peace. It was inspiring. My thoughts, today and going forward, are with his wife, Louise, his two sons, his extended family and friends. Rest well, Joe. Claire Bear. x
— Claire Robbin
I am so sorry for your loss as I know Joe was an amazing father, husband, brother, son, uncle, colleague, friend and so much more. He was so happy with, and proud of, his family and rightly so.

I learned so much from Joe about what it means to be a good friend. He was entirely selfless, generous with his time and his words and went out of his way to do things for us all over the years. He looked out for us all and he has always been someone I have looked to as a source of guidance. Joe would know exactly what to say in these heartbreaking circumstances.

I will cherish all the time we spent playing music together in the band, countless days and nights rehearsing, laughing, sweating and performing. He was a great showman and a magnetic presence.

I miss him now and I know I will think of him constantly in the future, usually triggered by the music we shared.

He was never afraid to tell his friends he loved them, and we loved him too. I hope he knew that.

Teach them how to shine Joe.
— Daniel Flynn

I am so sad to hear this news today. I had the pleasure of working (I use the term loosely!) with Joe when he was CSC Secretary in Trinity. He was absolutely sound then, with a great sense of humour, and from reading others’ memories of him, I can tell that he never changed. I only met up with him a couple of times since, but I know that his family will be bereft, and his communities the worse off for his passing. Thinking of you.
— Lucy O’Connell

Joe was an outstanding colleague at Murray Consultants and good friend. He always looked out for me and gave game me a good steer on matters concerning my career. Since that time he always gave me sage advice on fatherhood among other things.

Above all, he was one of the most decent people I have ever met. He was interesting, kind and had a great sense of humour. Being in his company was always fun. The world is a darker place without him. He will always be missed by everyone that knew him. RIP Joe.

Dear Louise, Danny, Joshua and the Heron and Boylan families, there are no words for me to express at a time like this.

In fact that’s how Joe and I got to know each other, when he worked in Murray’s and I was a client, drafting many a statement and annual report together over 14 years.

Joe would help me find the right words to write to you at this time.

Joe and I stayed in touch over the years and Louise, Danny and Joshua he always spoke about you with such love and pride and he literally lit up from within when talking about you.

Sending all my love, best wishes and prayers to you.

Joe, you have left us far too soon and you will be so badly missed.
