Deeply felt condolences to you and all the family. Fond memory of recent outing and dinner in Killarney. One of the first lawyers to engage with " Common Market Law" , his erudition, wit and humour will live long with those who were fortunate to have served with him. Tolerant and gentle always, he never compromised his academic rigour.

My sincere condolences to Sally and the Cooke family. I'm very sorry to learn of John's death. He was a brilliant lawyer, both as counsel and later as judge and he set my mind at rest on many occasions when he was "on my side". I was lucky to never be on the opposite side to John. Such was my regard for him that if I ever saw a difficult issue on the horizon as a solicitor, I ensured that I had engaged John before the opposition could do so. He was always patient and courteous while being erudite and scholarly. He'll be missed by all who knew him.
