John will be long remembered for his kindness to, and interest in, others. He was a wonderful man, whom it was a joy and pleasure to have known. He was the convenor par excellence of the "class of 69", and went to no end of trouble to include all and to ensure their happiness.
John always put the interest of others before his own. He bore his sufferings with great equanimity. He was a true soldier until the very end.

So sad to hear of John's passing. I was restaurant manager at Rosapenna Hotel,Co Donegal and that's where I met this lovely man.He was one of the nicest people to ever enter that restaurant. I had to retire in 2013 due to ill health and John visited my house and stayed for an hour chatting. He also gave me a voucher for two meals. I really got a shock when I heard he died. Sarah, so sorry to hear of your beloved husband's passing. I only met him on a few occasions but was always struck by his genuine warmth and good humour. My late dad, Michael Bohan, always spoke so highly of him as he recalled his court encounters with him in his capacity as the local Garda Superintendent back in the day. He acknowledged him as one of the best legal brains he had ever known but also noted that he had a compassion and humanity about him which dad said was quite remarkable. They always shared a good laugh and a joke too of course ! May John rest in gentle peace. xx
