Very sincere sympathy to the Fox family on the passing of two real gentlemen, John and Packie. Packie was the more reserved character, but John Fox had become an institution in Ballinamore. His turn of phrase was legendary and he will be quoted for years to come. Indeed his name has traveled across the world in the pages of John McGahern’s books. No doubt many a long chat the two John’s had while a puncture was being fixed or a rusty exhaust welded. It was so nice of Paddy McManus, John Harte and Padraig Griffin to be always on hand to man the pumps —— what a pity the dialogue was not recorded. Sleep well Packie and John.
