It’s quite futile to try put in to words the impact our wonderful uncle John had on our lives, how we looked up to him & how much he will be missed. An early memory is being at Nanas wanting to be entertained & John lifting us up in the air until our heads hit off the ceiling,we thought he was some kind of superhero to lift us that high! He referred to us as the ‘Horrors’ which we took as a term of endearment - I hope we were right :-) Books were another huge memory of John. He definitely ignited my love of reading which is a wonderful pastime I carry to this day. I credit him with my obsession with Nancy Drew & Sweet Valley High books which I still have! I remember him teaching me how to use a microscope I got one Christmas - I may have been one of his earliest students! And I can’t not mention his great skill as a spear fisher, the tales which he regaled to me after a night babysitting his own ‘Horrors’ :-) He was a huge influence on us all growing up & up to quite recently was a big influence on me making quiet a pivot in my own career to care of the elderly. John’s passion for working within this area & advice was paramount in making the move. His passing has left a huge John shaped hole in our family that can never be filled but I can see so much of him in his 4 wonderful children. This gives us all such great comfort knowing that he lives on through them & although John left behind many legacies they are surely his greatest. May you rest in peace John like you deserve x

Sincere condolences to Gillian & family, Mrs Linehan and John’s brothers & sisters. I knew John since we were students. He was one of the most sincere, honest and committed people I ever had the privilege to know. I came to know this shockingly sad news by chance when I popped into a shop in Millstreet and saw a picture of John raising funds for cancer services. John is like many of the great Saint’s in that when his service here was finished he has gone on now spending his time in heaven doing good on earth.
— Liz Healy

We were fortunate to have known John for most of his life and have many fond and treasured memories and feel honoured to call him our friend.
Words cannot express the sadness we feel for your loss.
Wishing you strength courage and comfort at this difficult time.
May Johns gentle soul rest peacefully.

All our hearts are completely broken with the passing of our beloved uncle John.
It is still hard to believe that he is gone - I can still see him pop his head around the door with a smile saying I know ye are allergic -but we’re here with all the gang!
He was so unassuming, many would not be aware of his remarkable accomplishments - except that he sometimes diagnosed ‘old age’.
He was an incredible father who worshipped his children. His impact on their lives will never diminish. We can see now, even in the short time that has passed that he will live on through Jen, Harry, Hugh and Josh.
It was all too short the time he had to spend with his beloved wife Gillian whom he adored. We will try in vain to fill the massive void he has left here.
He will no doubt continue to watch over his cherished family until we see him again.
Rest in Peace uncle John xx

It hard to grasp the loss that John has left in our family and something that will never be understood. We loved him so much, we were so so proud of him and looked up to him always, he was the bar to reach. John is among the first memories I have as a child with his big wooly jumpers and ‘how are the horrors?’ greetings, the cool guitars, visiting his picture in the Regional every single time we were there (!), amazing books for Christmas, the revered fame he held in the family, definitely destined for greater things!! We were never quite sure what his job was but the one thing we can be certain of is his love for Gillian, Jen, Harry, Hugh and Josh and the impact he has had on our family. He was an incredible person and showed unimaginable courage and resilience when faced with his illness. He will be in our hearts always, we will miss him always, his impact will live well beyond his own wonderful life. Rest in peace John xx

It is with great sadness that we even attempt to pay tribute to someone as special to us as John; He has been a loyal and consistent presence in our lives - best friend, Bestman and best Godfather to our Danny. Over the past days the memories have come flooding back, schooldays, holidays at home and abroad, nights out and great sporting occasions. John was always there for us on all our special family occasions and equally in times when we needed help and support; This continued right throughout John’s illness and this is a testament to his immense humanity and selflessness. Now, it is our turn support and nurture Gillian, Jennifer, Harry, Hugh and Josh as they endeavour to journey on without their beloved John.
It was a privilege to have had you, John, in our lives, rest easy now.
Love always

John was a very nice and caring person. I never heard him raise his voice. He was very talented. He could cook really nice food and he could play music. He could play sports. John was a Stoke fan so now Stoke are my second favourite team besides Liverpool.
Love Calum

John was a very quiet man, but equally as caring, I remember one time we were at one of Hugh’s soccer games, and there was a small stall that was selling treats, I asked mom “Can I have some money to get some sweets?”, she said “No I’ll get you some at half time”, John heard us, he dug in his pocket and gave me a few euro, without saying a word. John was a great man, but an even better uncle.
Love Abbey

John was a very happy man. He always made really good food. He played charades with us. John was a very lovely happy man.
