To all John’s family, including the Queen family, sincere and deep sympathy to you on the loss of such a beautiful person.
John cut my hair for many many years. We joked about my own fringe ‘trims’ in between visits and I trusted him implicitly, not just with my hair. His last message to me just two short weeks ago was typical, played down his own pain, shared the ‘Big Love’.
So so lucky to have known him. May he RIP.

I’m writing through tears of sadness. Too young and too soon. John cut my hair for over twenty years. I will
Always remember the chatter, the dramatic pauses midway through a snip of hair - to emphasise his stories. I seriously can’t believe this man has left us. A breath of fresh air and a man full of kindness to his family and his queen family. You will be missed and remembered. All my love. RIP but don’t stop the stories and the laughter.
— Eve Johnston
I’m so sorry for your loss. My heartfelt condolences to John’s family and friends and to his Queen family. I know how close you were to him. Such a beautiful, sharply intelligent, kind and funny person. We’d such great conversations in Queen Aungier St, over the years, which he at times let me use as a city centre pick up spot for activist materials, as well as being so kind to me at the difficult times, as well as giving great advice, all alongside and part of his great creativity. So sad. X
— Simone George

My name is Trish and I first met John back in the 90's in blackrock, followed him to Crowe Street and then to Queen. John saw me through 20 years of friendship, support and love which included a divorce amongst many other things that life threw at me, John made everything better. I've been racking my brains over the last few days to try write something which sums John up and I've been finding it difficult as he had so many qualities. I have it now!
The context of this is that I texted my sister Cathy who lives down the country to tell her of Johns passing. She immediately texted back 'From Blackrock?' (she visited John ONCE 20 years ago). I texted 'Yes' and she sent me this message - to me this sums up how John was, he just got people and made a difference.

'He made me look and feel like a super model that day.
We had such a laugh
I was looking at vogue and admiring this cream calf skin luggage and typical bogger in me said you sure would never keep it clean.
His reply was this
"Darling if you have the money for white calf skin luggage you ain't flying Ryanair".
We were roaring laughing
RIP John, you were so loved in some many ways that you didn't even know.

Trish xx
