Dear Jane and family
I was sad to hear of John's death. Our monthly lunch meetings kept me going for many years especially in the time after my father's death. His good cheer and enthusiasm were infectious. As you know my Dad held him in high esteem as a public servant in the cause of Ireland and the EU, as a wise advisor and as a friend.
Best wishes to you and family at this sad time.
John

Dear Jane and all of the McColgan family,

Thinking of John today a week from his passing and of all of you as you mourn a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother – and thinking too of the lifelong friends he was lucky enough to hold dear.

I look forward to celebrating his exceptional life with you at a safer date and learning more about his legacy. Until then, I’ll treasure the picture in my mind’s eye of John’s fantastically fun smile and his easy intelligent charm.

With love to you all at this most difficult time,

Farewell dear friend. You were a charming man and it was a delight always to be in your company, with the sole exception of when you murdered the Waterford accent for my sake. A wonderful raconteur with true wit and humour and erudite to boot. You will be sadly missed. By now I expect you have already regaled the company with " The Ould Orange Flute". I was always happy in the company of another happy soul. Jim
