My sincere condolences to Barry and all members of the McGrath family and especially to Marie on the recent sad passing of John. The news of his untimely demise instantly brought back memories of our UCC days and the Faculty of Commerce, the different lecturers, and many classmates, and the occasional rumbustious meeting in the Commerce Room. In those times (early/mid 1960s) the female students would be few enough and the College Restaurant ("The Rest") was the hub of activity, and, socially the centre of our lives. John McGrath with that beautiful smile and handsome face certainly stood out of the crowd. Happy days in those so care-free years and more innocent times. God rest his gentle soul.

It was with great sadness that I learned of John’s sudden passing. I had the pleasure over many years officiating at golf events at home and abroad. A man with an enormous knowledge of the rules of golf , a game he loved non more so than officiating at a junior Golf events. A man that was kind and had the respect of everybody and people listened to his views as he would say are generally right. I offer my deepest sympathy to Marie and all his family during this sad time Yes that smile of his will be missed by Marie and family but also by his many true friends.
Rest in peace dear John ..
