So sorry to hear about the untimely death of our former neighbour, John. He was a lovely man. I remember both himself and Clodagh as being kind and friendly neighbours - I used to babysit Nicholas and Ellen for them. May his soul and the soul of Clodagh rest, reunited, in peace.

It is with great sadness that i learned of Johns passing, as a former neighbour i remember John with great fondness, as he brought me back to gormanston one time. He was a good neighbour to have . Very saddened to hear of John's passing. Sincere condolences to his family. One of natures true gentlemen, it was great to meet John, a talented artist, at exhibitions in Sligo and Dublin (A fine painting of his was chosen for the Royal Hibernian Academy in 2016). He shared his knowledge and enthusiasm with all and was generous in his praise of other artists. His paintings, richly layered, deeply thought out, recall his depth of character and vision.

I was very saddened to hear that John had passed away, a lovely man. I had the privilege of meeting him through working in Hamilton Gallery as he contributed many works over the years to different exhibitions. He was a great artists and was always a gentleman to deal with. He loved any excuse to come to Sligo to deliver/collect his paintings. My heartfelt condolences to John’s family on your sad loss.

Aunque no los conocimos, tenemos la suerte de conocerte a ti desde tus "early 20s". Te hemos visto crecer laboralmente y personalmente, estamos orgullosos de cada logro, sabemos que no eres de abrazos, pero sí de lealtad. No te gustan los besos, pero aún así nos permites amapucharte de vez en cuando; y poco a poco, hemos podido entrar en tu corazón y ver ese hermoso castillo que tienes construido.

No tuvimos tiempo de hablar con tus padres, pero sabemos que eso es gracias a ellos, así que brindamos al cielo, tristes pero al mismo tiempo felices, de haber hecho de ti lo que eres. Tomamos el testigo y te abrazamos en nuestra familia.

Still surprised by the news of your mother, we received this… We are not able to digest what has happened, our capacity for understanding does not go that far.

Even though we didn’t know them, we are lucky to know you from your early 20s. We have seen you grow professionally and personally, we are proud of each achievement. We know that you are not one for hugs, but one for loyalty. Even if you don't like kisses, you allow us to cuddle you from time to time; and little by little, we have been able to enter your heart and see that beautiful castle you have built.

Although we didn’t know your parents, we know that this is because of them, so we toast to heaven, sad but at the same time happy, for having made you who you are. We take the baton and embrace you in our family.

Clodagh and John, you can rest in peace, Nicho is now ours and we will take it upon ourselves to continue what you started.

So sorry to hear about John's passing. He taught me in O'Fiaich and was so kind, patient and good-humored. I remember him instructing me on the importance of realizing when an artwork is finished, and it ended up being very useful life advice also. My sympathies are with Nicholas and his family. To Ellen, Nicholas, your partners, the O O Connor and Toal families I offer my heartfelt condolences. John was one of the first people I met when I came to Dundalk in 1985. He was a talented artist, a skilled sportsman, an inspiring teacher but first and foremost a devoted husband and father. We chatted a few months ago and I have that lovely memory of his understanding of how life can be and how we find ways to cope with pain and suffering. He was kind, caring and compassionate. I hope Ellen and Nicholas that life will now be kind to you and that you will be supported through this very sad time in your lives.

Condolences to all johns family for their heart breaking loss , only knew John a short time but will remember him for a long time , till we meet again to play golf in heaven.

I knew John as the loving husband of one of my best childhood friends. My visits to him and Clodagh were infrequent but much treasured. He was her better half, and she was his. A more caring and compatible partnership could not be imagined. That Clodagh should be taken from John’s side so prematurely was an immense sadness; that he should follow so soon, a cruel twist of fate. To Nicholas and Ellen I say: your parents’ lights burned brighter and more intensely than most. Their glow will continue to warm your hearts and your spirits, and those of your children too. Perhaps they were simply destined to never be apart for long.

Very sorry to hear of your Father's passing. What a wonderful person. From the tributes here he certainly had a spot in all our hearts. I always remember our chats about Sligo and the farm. From my time at Creative Spark print studio, I have lasting memories. I'm sure all in the art community remember him as a true talent and a perfect gentleman.
