I would like to extend my deepest condolences to you all on the passing of your loved one. My first encounter with John was at the LOI seminar in 1981. We met fairly frequently down through the years at matches and various other events and he was always delighted to renew our acquaintance. I was saddened at the news that he had passed away.

Sincere condolences to the Scanlon family on the sad passing of John. He was a sincere, kind and warm-hearted man who devoted so much of his life to refereeing I completed my referee's beginner's course under John in Sligo in 1994 and ever since remained in contact throughout my career as a referee and latterly as an FAI referee Observer. Always enjoyed meeting John at various events and functions. He always had time for everyone. A very engaging,man whose advice on refereeing and observing was invaluable and always delivered with respect and kindness.
John loved his various roles in refereeing and made many friends across the whole country. May his gentle soul Rest In Peace.
