I was shocked and saddened to hear of John's passing. I would have attended the funeral if I had known. John was a true gentleman, so kind, generous and such wonderful company. It was always a highlight ,of my time as a children's librarian in South Dublin, to visit I E.S and to get such a courteous welcome from John, Caroline and Jonathan. I met John for the first time as a library assistant working in Cork County Library in 1982 and over the years met him many times and had many sporting conversations.
