I shall miss Johnny so much. A friend for 30 years and so many good memories of rock gigs and football.

So shocked about Johnny.. I had the pleasure of meeting him and spending some memorable fun nights in his company.. A wonderful fun, bright man full of life and laughter...May he rest in peace and I hope it is some consolation for his family and friends to know how well loved he was and that he will never be forgotten. R.I.P Johnny... Rock and roll in heaven baby x

Rest in peace Johnny, another brilliant radio personality gone too soon,

I know Johnny from UCD and UCD Soccer Club during late 1980s/ early1990s. He was such a nice person and his voice was so distinctive. Sad to hear of his sudden death. May he rest in peace

I didn't know john personally ,but he was a complete legend in radio broadcasting, his voice and energy was one that will never be matched. Such a young and talented life, taken away from not just his family and friends but from a nation of people who loved him and drew such energy from his broadcasting, he truly will never be forgotten. Johnny Lyons! A family man, relative, friend, broadcaster and LEGEND! Heaven is a far better place for John being there. My thoughts are with his grief stricken family, friends and colleagues. He was truly the voice of Sport and his unique style will echo though the ages for me.

Condolences to Johnny's family, friends and colleagues. Johnny, was a sports broadcaster sans pareil. He asked his guests on Sundays all the questions we wanted to hear, that others wouldn't have got away with, but he did because of his incredible knowledge and infectious personality. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

you lit up the room before you even got to it, your cheerful voice could not be mistaken,, it was a comfort to still hear you on the radio after not seeing you in so long, and I've no doubt in my mind that you are rocking to your heavy metal right now. Like many of Johnnys ex colleagues I was shocked and saddened to hear the news of his passing. He shone bright like a diamond with his huge personality and will be missed by so many. May I extend my deepest sympathies to his family. I would like nothing more than to attend his send off but as I'm away I'll settle for raising a toast (vodka of course) to him instead. RIP
