Deepest sympathies to Joe's family, friends and neighbours. In Mc Ginley's shop, which when growing up was an Aladain's Cave, Joe worked hard and yet had time and respect for everyone. This continued into his retirement when he recognised the importance of recording much history that was taken for granted. One of life's gentlemen, may he rest in peace.

I am so sorry I missed this notice.

I had occasion to be with Joe in Sligo Hospital at the start of 2023.

We spoke a lot and I listened more than I spoke. I so enjoyed his company. He gave the impression of a long lived, well read, very knowledgeable gentleman.

They say when a man dies a library goes with him. I believe this to be the case with Joe.

I remember him leaving before me and telling me he was going to a Nursing home and this would be his last time South of Benbulben. It seemed to me, he had happily come to terms, it seemed, leaving this world and going home. I watched this man leave the ward and wished his comfort.

He was a man - if I had known he was in Sligo again I would have have made it my business to visit him.

God speed you Sir, May you rise with the best.

I shall remember with gladness Joe's wonderful contribution to the Community Garden in Carrick, and laterally in Kilcar. He had wonderful gardening and local historical knowledge. He was especially good with tomato plants, and taught many of us how to grow them successfully. May he rest in peace. Thank you.

Joe, you were a man of distinction. You left an impression. And always an inspiration. Sincere sympathy to your family and friends.

Sympathy to the Gallagher family on the death of Joe. I had the pleasure of calling to Joe in McGinleys hardware shop in the 70s and 80s. He was a very hard worker and a nice man to do business with. He also looked after his customers with care and attention.

I have many happy memories of visiting Joseph and his parents. No visit was complete without stopping in carrick to let Joseph know we had arrived. Armed with ham and tomatoes he would bring us to the house. A true gentleman. May he rest in peace Anne Marie
