Sincere sympathy to all the family on the death of Mr.Schwalm.He and your mother were most gracious hosts for many of the D.C.W. staff celebrations and are remembered with great fondness by those who taught their daughters.
— Geraldine Gale
We are very saddened to learn of Jurgen's death. He was always very welcoming, circulated among the tables greeting each customer and telling an amusing story. He never forgot a customers known preferences (a plate of chips and a glass of Coke for Andrew) and vocally approved of the son picking up the tab on Fathers Day. In all of this he was well-partnered by his late wife Aine. He and she will be sorely missed.
All our thoughts and prayers are with Helen and the family
— David, Olive & Andrew, Greystones
Dear Helen,Ingrid,Gisela,Sabine and your familes,we were so very, very sorry to hear that Jurgen has passed on.He put up a great fight and is now with his beloved Áine and they are both keeping a protective eye on you and your families. We know how proud he was of the 4 of you and how he loved you all and especially, his grandchildren, who he always spoke so fondly of. I (Cormac) have known Jurgen (and Áine) for over 40 years and loved our many meals and gatherings in The Roundwood Inn.We have seen you all grow into beautiful women and you in turn have seen our brood also grow from their Births up to present day.Sundays will never be the same again.I shall miss Jurgen's tales and his enthusiasm. We hope to see you all again in the near future when this virus has passed.Take care with love from Geraldine,Cormac,Stephanie,Christian and Alix.

There is no Christmas tree more wonderful, than the one in the Roundwood Inn.
There is no place more special to celebrate family milestones, than the Roundwood Inn.
After a day on the mountains, just opening that door and receiving the warm welcome, is as cosy as the best woolly jumper, and then the fantastic food.

It is very unique, and all created by Jurgen and Aine. They made us all feel as if we were the only special customers. Truly exceptional people.

We were very sad to hear the news of Jurgen's passing and send our sympathy to his family and all the staff at the Roundwood Inn.
— McNulty Family, John and Pam

Dear Schwalm Family and all associated with you and The Rou ndwood Inn
It seems like the end of an era.So many treasured memories of lunch or dinner in the Roundwood and so many family occassions celebrated there. We miss the warm gentle presence of Aine and now also of Jurgen.
The uniqueness of the Roundwood Inn was due to Aine and Jurgens influence and it will continue on Im sure.
I extend on behalf of myself and my family our sincerest sympathies to all of you at this time.Aine and Jurgens legacy will live on .
Sincerely.Julie O Gorman and Family
— Julie O Gorman
I was very saddened by Jurgens passing and I extend my sincere sympathy to Jurgens children, in-Laws, grandchildren, friends, customers and friend-customers and I was one of very many of the latter!

It is truly an end of an era; the Roundwood Inn will continue to provide the aura and warm welcome of Aine and Jurgen but very very sadly we will not experience him again...just the fondest memories.

He did me many a favour...we had many a quiet word about this and that and much fun and craic.

I wish I could tell him that his repeated urging about me giving up smoking...had finally worked!!

I am very very sorry that his era has come to an end....though it will endure in ways. He will be sadly missed by very many, not least by me.

May he rest in peace. Thanks for all Jurgen!!

Lieber Jürgen
What are we going to do? we will miss and not forget you.
So many ordinary Sundays were like a special family occasion at your hands over decades , most of the decades. A warm welcome. A nice, usually amusing update or story on fishing, a grandchild’s progress , another grandchild. Crab claws , we never had better anywhere ..they weren’t even mentioned on the menu, they were a tip-off from you. It was great to meet you the first time and it was great to meet you anytime after and Aine and your family, a credit to you both.
You often said , “will I be generous ?“ as if you were ever not , I can hear your voice “ vill I be generous ?” der einziger Preußen Ich kenne, Ich freue mich dich zukennen

Heartfelt sympathy on your loss, to the Schwalm family and all the staff at The Roundwood Inn. Reading your lovely appreciation of Jurgen's life brings the happy memories flooding back - our little wedding party (just 17 guests) that Jurgen and Áine arranged with such care, especially the duck that my mother insisted on for our beautiful meal... There was even a horse, Country Wedding, running that day that won us a few bob to buy roses for our new garden. The visits with our young family, when Jurgen smiled indulgently and allowed them to play with their Tonka trucks in the recess beside the huge fireplace in the bar (a natural play pen) while we lingered over lunch. The many friends and famliy we so proudly introduced to Jurgen and Áine's unique creation, The Roundwood Inn. The talk of wild deer and sheep and fishing, the goulash, the smoked trout, the venison ragout, the red cabbage, the house Irish Stew - and Áine's luscious sponge gateau (and yes, I do have the recipe). So, a sad farewell - but also grateful thanks for all the good times. And long live Jurgen and Aine's legacy, The Roundwood Inn - there's nowhere quite like it.

Helen, Ingrid, Gisela and Sabine and your families,
We were so sorry to hear about Jürgen’s passing. Three generations of our family have enjoyed regular family gatherings at the Roundwood Inn and the memories from these. Apart from their amazing hospitality and food, the chat and craic with Jürgen and Áine was a feature of every visit. As we drove out there we’d discuss what we would order and would wait for Jürgen to offer us “a couple of prawns”. And he loved to see the children (many now young adults) eat, and made them feel so special. They too really looked forward to our trips to the Roundwood Inn. We loved hearing about Jürgen’s adventures and his unique analysis of current affairs. Remembering Jürgen and Áine with the fondest of memories, thinking of you all at this time and hoping to go out to the Roundwood Inn soon.

Our thoughts are with you.
From Coke and 7ups in the bar on a Sunday after mass, through the dining room and it’s roaring fire, chicken and chips in a basket, and on to reception, I can see Juergen’s beaming smile, standing in open armed welcome. And he spoke German ! A cool cat.
hot ribeena.......and chicken in the basket. Waiting, while our dutiful church going parents were in the inn paying homage to the man behind the bar called Jurgen. Big man, big smile, big handshake. And always a kitkat to give us. So so sad that people like him must pass and leave us. Enjoy meeting your good good wife. Good bye Jurgen.
