Deepest condolences to Justin's family. I too have fond memories of playing together in the Fishery. We attended Arklow CBS together, in the same class, for the duration. In July 1968 Justin bought me my first beer in the Bridge Hotel. After that day we only met up intermittently and accidentally. A very sad day. RIP Justin.
— Richard Ruxton
On hearing of the death of my dear friend of over fifty years these words of Robert Burns sprung to mind.

"An honest man here lies at rest,
As e’er God with His image blest:
The friend of man, the friend of truth;
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d,
Few heads with knowledge so inform’d:
If there’s another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this"

Love to all who loved and mourn him, he was a man the likes of which you dont meet everyday.
— Keith Stoddart & Lorraine Ward

Justin's death was a great shock to me. We met and collaborated intermittently initially through our involvement first with Dublin Simon and later before and during my political career.He was an inspirational figure who faced life and its crises with humour and conviction. Fear cumasach a bhí ábalta féachaint cuig micothromaíocht an tsaoil. Braistim gur ionspioráid domsa a bhi i Justin. Tá an saol níos boichte ina éagmais. Comhbhrón ó chroí dá chlann.

Rachel thinking of you and all the family at this sad time. It was good to have the chance to say farewell to Justin last night and to meet you and some of the family. I was sorry I couldn’t get to his funeral today and catch up with old Simon Community comrades, but glad it was possible to watch the service online. What a wonderful send-off you gave him – heart felt eulogies and wonderful singing, songs and poems. It was a loving tribute to all that he achieved, and his love for you, Elisha, Emma, Kevin and Joshua shone through. Ní bheidh a leithéad arís ann

Justin O'Brien sorry to hear of his passing. What a decent human being. I was his room mate in Raglan Road in 1973.

His love of traditional Irish Music was phenomenal and he shared so much of this with me. He taught me how to appreciate our traditional culture.
— Terry Stewart
Shocked I am to hear of Justin passing . He has stayed with me all day. I met and worked with him back in the
very early days of Dublin Simon at the shelter on Sarsfield Quay. Met him in different actions for homelessness
down through the many years when he was in focus Point/Ireland. However I got to work directly with him in relation to
the long awaited Regeneration of St Michaels Estate and the building of 75 Social Homes on Thorton Heights Inchicore. Had many a passionate disagreement with him. We always left it in the room !! I had a lot of respect for his commitment and his true dedication to homeless people those very much on the edge of society.
He always spoke up and fought hard for them and for children . He thought us in St Michaels Estate a lot about
alternative models of housing. He had a large amount of knowledge because Justin lived what he believed.
He was always with his bike . I really am shocked as he is huge loss in these times of the housing crisis. He left his mark on peoples lives . He was a change maker.
My sympathy to you his wife Rachael and all the family. Our loved ones are never far they are always by our side.
— Rita Fagan Housing Activist
