We were very shocked and saddened to learn of the untimely death of Liam Flynn. In extending our sympathy to; his wife Marie, sons William and Seán, daughter Karen, mother Elizabeth Flynn, mother-in-law (Mrs. Carroll), his 8 siblings and the extended Flynn & Carroll families, we assure them of our support and prayers now and in the difficult days ahead.

Liam was a GAA footballer of immense stature as he majestically graced the playing pitches; not alone of his native county of Leitrim, but throughout the length and breath of the country as well. He played for Leitrim in all grades (as well as his club, St. Marys) and won a bagful of medals in the process. Noteworthy feats were his captaining of Leitrim to the county’s first ever Fr. Manning Cup (Under-16) success in 1975. He also featured with his brother Michael on the Leitrim under-21 team that won the Connacht Championship in 1977. Liam was a majestic fielder of the high ball dropping in the midfield area, a wonderful distributor too, as well as a forward with exceptional scoring ability. A complete footballer who could compare with the best of any era.

The “Gentle Giant” will be sorely missed by his family in Dublin and Leitrim; his community in Firhouse where he was such a valuable member and volunteer; his golfing friends; and finally, his GAA fraternity all over the country who remembered him as an outstanding gaelic football talent which endeared him to everyone. So sorry to hear of the untimely passing of Liam. My condolences to his wife and family and also to his dear mother Elizabeth and his sisters and brothers. Praying for strength and courage for all you to bear another sad loss. Suaimhneas síoraí go raibh aige.
