Condolences to Emer, Liam, Paddy, Sarah and Jack. Great memories and great times in Egypt, Bray, Whaley Abbey, 138, Owenstown House, Haddington Terrace. He will be missed. My mothers memory of the Shanahan house in Oxmanstown goes back to the late 1940's when my Grand Aunt Bridget Tyrell and my mother would visit Liams mother. A while back. RIP. Paul/Jean.

Dear Emir, Paddy, Liam, Sarah and Jack

From your next door neighbours all those years ago in Killiney.

So very sorry to learn of Liam's passing. I have many fond memories of the happy times you had with my parents when we were kids and I believe it was Bill who introduced Liam to sailing in what seems an age ago now.

Sadly Mum and I only learned the news recently and I'm currently at sea.
Very sincere condolences to you all.

Liam and my father, Art Peltosalo, were business associates at GE and later continued as close friends with visits to his home in Ireland and our place on Gibson Island, near Washington. I first met him in our living room over cocktails laced with wonderful stories and sly humor. It was there I believe that Liam met Jack Quinn of North Sails who made a suit for Liam's boat on the condition that if he didn't win the next big race, he wouldn't have to pay for them. I still have vivid memories of his smile and humor but have forgotten too much of the joke about the "uphill cow" which left me aching with laughter. He was always a favorite memory of Art's until his passing in 2002. Please pass on the condolences from the Peltosalo family to the extended Shanahan family. Eric Peltosalo

To Liam Jnr, Jack and all the Shanahan family, my sincere condolences at this difficult time. I first remember meeting Liam just before the start of round Ireland race in 1988, as a young 15-year-old (also competing in the race), I was in absolute amazement when Lighting won (mixed with a little envy too!!).
Thinking of you all.

It was with great sadness we learnt of the passing on of your beloved Liam. Our sincere condolences to you, Paddy, Liam, Sarah, Jack, and family members. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Over the past number of years, we enjoyed Liam's company during our Brunches and Lunches at NYC. We were terribly fond of Liam, who always had a smile, a kind word and time for you. In particular, Liam was exceptionally kind to Glenn, they had many great chats and laughs about their favourite radio shows. Rest Easy now Liam.

Very sad day to hear of the demise of the great SHANAHAN! Absolutely heart-breaking.
But happy with the conviction that he has received his eternal reward.
He (and Emir, too) were always not only supporters, but even boosters of my sometimes shaky endeavors.
I will try to follow his Mass tomorrow Saturday morning at 2 a.m.
The 10:30 a.m. Mass this Sunday in the parish of Our Lady of Refuge in San Diego, where he spent some time, will be offered in his honor.

It's the passing of a great era. Liam was what's great about sailing, engineering, motivation and straight forward "Get it done".
Sincere sympathies to you all.
Alistair, Muriel and Kenneth Rumball and all the crew at the INSS
— Alistair Rumball
A wonderful force of nature who, with Emir, extended a great welcome to all at Shanahan family events in Mount Merrion, and the annual Whaley Abbey treasure hunt.
He kept us all in line! I especially recall when he (probably correctly) decided to cut short my out of tune version of Spancil Hill, to be replaced by ANY better singer. (Sarah got the gig with Yellow Bird).
The Shanahan's were an institution that played a major part in so many of our fun, youthful, days.
Will always be fondly remembered!
Rest in Peace.
— Robert & Caroline Murray

Dear Emir, Liam, Paddy, Sarah, Jack and families,

Sincerest condolances on the passing of Liam Sr.
He was a great support to me at the National Yacht Club not least as Club Trustee for many years. Always full of great ideas and different ways to look at things.
Liam was a fantatsic and fearless engineer who took what he learnt at GE Schenectady and grew it into Shanahan Engineering - which developed hundreds of Irish engineering grads into being excellent mangers.
We'll miss him greatly. A true man of the sea.

I have very fond memories of racing against Liam many years ago and was in awe of him and his boat Lightning. A very decent and "normal" man despite all of his successes.
He leaves a great legacy to sailing behind him.

Dear Emir, Paddy, Liam, Sarah, Jack, and Families.

Myself and Tina would like to express our deepest condolences.

I was so fortunate to have started my sailing career with Liam on board Emircedes.

He was a man of quiet generosity and gave freely of his time and wisdom onboard and onshore.

Many sailors today, myself included, owe their ethos of Competitiveness, Corinthian Spirit, and Safety at Sea to Liam’s wise tutelage.

Home is the Sailor Home from the Sea, May He Rest in Peace.
