Madeline was our Nana's sister, a second Nana for us, very emotional leaving her to rest today, loved her so dearly, thanks to all that came, rest in peace lady Windsor from Briege, Colm Conor, Ciara, Tara

These countless warm tributes to Madeleine are testament to the sizeable impact she had in so many people’s lives, from family and friends, to neighbours and acquaintances, who turned out in such supportive numbers at St. Oliver Plunkett’s Church in Blackrock today.

A lady to the last – elegant, dignified, intellectual, fiercely independent – her approach to life committed to do doing things well and doing them properly, as she would expect of others. Her sometimes formidable exterior hosted an extraordinarily generous heart that extended beyond the call of expectation - always engaged, curious and willing to partake in every social occasion and in marking the life milestones of others (notably, rather than her own!). She was a model of independent living in older age, astonishing in her determination to remain physically and mentally active, never once wishing to be a burden on others.

Madeleine was a steadfast and enriching presence in the Hickey household – a true surrogate granny for one we never knew – and the best possible friend to our parents Angela and Bernard, and to our late granny Gagoo/Kay who so enjoyed her company and shared many interests, including her love of cats and dogs.

We are privileged to have known Madeleine and to have had her influence in our lives.

We extend our shared condolences to her entire family and friends.

Madeleine was a wonderful lady with a positive outlook on life and she was always interested in everyone else. We will miss chatting to her and seeing her blue car dash down the road as she headed off out of Elm Park to all her various social engagements. May she rest in peace.

Sincere sympathy to Madeleine’s family and friends. Madeleine was a remarkable woman with so many interests, she was President of The Rock Contract Bridge Club 1998/99 and again in 2014/15. We had many enjoyable sessions after Bridge. She never ceased to amaze me, especially when she embraced online Bridge during the Pandemic. May Madeleine rest in peace.
