I am writing this from Australia where I live. Two years ago I met Margaret, when I visited the Shackleton Museum. Margaret greeted me with so much enthusiasm and enhanced my visit so much. We chatted for along time about the great man and indeed another Polar explorer Charles Swithinbank.

I was saddened to read of Margarets passing to her eternal reward. Many happy memories of dealing with her over the years. She was always pleasant and good humoured. Nothing was ever too much to take on. She had passion for her work and whatever project she had on, got her full attention. She helped put Athy Museum on the map.

I had the pleasure of just speaking to her a few weeks ago as l had not meet Margaret for some time. On my annual visit to Athy Margaret was always most welcoming, helpful, cheerful, and courteous. And many's the time she bailed me out when searching for an 11th hour accommodation at some local B&B.

I am so sorry and shocked to hear of Margaret's untimely passing. I knew her through her work at the Shackleton Museum and so enjoyed celebrating her and her colleagues' success when the Museum became accredited and maintained its accredition under the Heritage Council’s Museum Standards Programme. I shall look forward to seeing her achievements when the museum reopens after its refurbishment and extension. My sincere condolences to Margaret's family, friends and colleagues.

What a wonderful lady Margaret was. I only knew her through attending the Shackleton Autumn School for yesrs; but oh - the sweet joy of getting her recognition when i rang to book a few years ago.
